Kit Kat Bars

So, I am standing in line at Hobby Lobby waiting for my turn behind 4 other people because you know Hobby Lobby has a rule that they have 1 cashier on duty at a time. I love the place but God Bless them they do not ever have enough cashiers. So, that brings me to my next dilema standing in line = impulse buys. If I had just walked up to check out I would not have had time to look over and see a Paula Deen magazine that I did not have BEST DESSERTS!!! Sure, I grabbed thinking I would thumb threw it and put it back NOT after I came to the recipe for Homemade Kit Kat bars there were also a few other recipes I HAD TO HAVE!!! Yes, sure I could have gone online and googled the recipe and found it. Instead I paid $8.99 for my very own BEST DESSERTS by Paula Deen. Come on it is a Speical Collector's Issue so it was worth $8.99 right?!?!?

  • 75 club crackers
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups graham cracker crumbs (The 20% more graham cracker crumb pie crust is 2 cups)
  • 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 2/3 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup butterschotch chips

Line an ungreased 13x9 inch baking pan with 1 layer of crackers, cutting to fit; set aside.

In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add cracker crumbs, brown sugar, milk, and sugar. Bring to a boil and boil for 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and pour half of the butter mixture evenly over crackers. Place another single layer of crackers evenly over butter mixture. Pour remaining butter mixture evenly over crackers. Top evenly with remaining crackers.

In a small saucepan, combine peanut butter, chocolate and butterscotch chips. Melt over medium low heat, stirring constantly. Spread evenly over crackers. Cover and chill for at least 1 hour. Cut into bars and store into refrigerator.
